DarkWalls is a quiet, curated wallpaper app for dark hours. This page answers the questions we get most often. If your question isn’t here, send a short note to privacy@orbontech.com and we’ll get back to you, usually within two business days.
Open a wallpaper from the grid, then tap the download button in the bottom action bar. The first time you do this, iOS will ask for permission to add images to your Photos — tap Allow Access. Every saved wallpaper goes into a dedicated DarkWalls album inside Photos.
DarkWalls saves the image to your photo library; iOS handles the rest. After saving:
This is the standard iOS flow — no third-party app can set the wallpaper directly, which is by Apple’s design.
On some iPhones — especially if you tapped Selected Photos instead of Allow Access to All Photos the first time — iOS saves images to the general library without creating the album. To fix:
On your device, locally. We don’t run servers that track which wallpapers you like — tapping a bookmark just records an ID in the app’s private storage on your phone. Uninstalling DarkWalls permanently deletes your favorites.
Not through DarkWalls. This is a tradeoff we made for privacy — there’s no account system, so there’s no cloud backup either. If you switch phones, the built-in iOS backup (via iCloud or a direct Mac backup) will carry your favorites with the app. A fresh install on a new device with no phone backup starts empty.
DarkWalls is free. A short Rewarded Interstitial ad before each save is what keeps the app independent. Watch the ad to completion and the wallpaper will save right after.
Tap the search bar on the home screen or long-press the app icon on your home screen and pick Search. You can type a keyword (like “purple” or “forest”) or tap one of the tag chips to filter. Selected tags combine — pick two to narrow further.
The catalogue is hand-curated, so it’s intentionally small. We add new wallpapers periodically rather than flooding the library with generic images. Check What’s New in the App Store for update notes.
Not at launch. DarkWalls is built on a cross-platform codebase, so an Android release is technically possible — if there’s enough interest, we’ll do the work. Let us know at privacy@orbontech.com if you’d like one.
We curate very selectively, but we’re happy to look at pitches. Send two or three samples (or links) to privacy@orbontech.com with a short note about your work. We reply to every submission, even if it’s a no.
We don’t have remote crash reporting (that would mean collecting device diagnostics, which we’ve opted not to do). So we rely on people like you telling us. Please write to privacy@orbontech.com with:
Effectively nothing that identifies you. No accounts, no tracking identifiers, no analytics. The only thing that leaves your device is an anonymous “this wallpaper was downloaded” ping so we can rank popularity — and it contains no information about you. For the full audit-level answer, read the Privacy Policy.
Uninstall the app. Every piece of locally-stored data (favorites, download counter, recent searches) is removed with the app. We have nothing on our servers to delete because we never had anything in the first place.
For anything not covered above, write to privacy@orbontech.com. We try to reply within two business days. The same address handles privacy-specific inquiries (data requests, deletion, complaints).
